Candace Acevedo

Community Outreach Manager

Candace Acevedo is a member of Consumer Action's training and outreach staff. Acevedo had been a member of Consumer Action's board of directors for five years before joining the staff.

Acevedo was employed previously at the San Francisco School-to-Career Partnership, where she partnered corporations, government agencies, colleges, universities, and community based organizations with San Francisco Unified School District programs.

For most of her career, Acevedo has focused on helping people improve their credit and management skills. She has 15 years of experience with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS), where she counseled thousands of individuals and families experiencing financial crisis. In her role as CCCS Director of Education and Community Relations she provided credit and financial management classes to numerous community, schools, government agencies, and corporations and designed education programs and media campaigns to promote personal finance management. The campaigns she designed while at CCCS won PACE awards for Best Public Awareness and Creative Counseling Outreach.

Acevedo served on the executive board of Habitat for Humanities in San Francisco and provided money and credit management classes for participants in the group's home ownership programs. She also served on the advisory board for the Bar Association's Economic Empowerment Project and designed and taught classes for the LEAP Program and Women's Initiative for Self-Employment. While serving on the advisory committee for the California Department of Education and the Bay SCAN Financial Services Learning Collaborative Advisory Board, Acevedo worked on youth development programs that provided job preparation and life skills classes, including money and credit management, to high school teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
