National Consumer Empowerment Conference
Consumer Action’s 4th Annual National Consumer Empowerment Conference
November 20-21, 2013
Sheraton Chicago, Rosemont, Illinois (At O’Hare International Airport)
Consumer Action’s 2013 National Consumer Empowerment Conference—our fourth—is a two-day event bringing together up to 75 of our most effective community group partners, consumer education experts and advocates, legislative, regulatory and industry representatives and other key stakeholders to address critical consumer issues and share best practices in community-based consumer education and empowerment.
We need your financial support to make this year’s conference as successful as those we’ve held before.
The Conference
The National Consumer Empowerment Conference takes consumer outreach and consumer literacy training to the next level by providing selected community-based organizations (CBOs) in our nationwide network—from cooperative extension offices and social service agencies to veterans’ advocates and credit and housing counselors—with the rare opportunity to learn from some of the country’s top community educators and subject matter experts and to network with other adult consumer literacy education providers.
Our conference agenda consists of presentations, panel discussions and interactive sessions that address the challenges that community-based consumer education providers have in common, such as:
- Implementing effective outreach strategies
- Penetrating hard-to-reach communities
- Achieving established teaching objectives
- Tracking and evaluating client progress
- Evaluating the effectiveness of a training program

Support
The budget for this year’s National Financial Empowerment Conference is $150,000, which will enable us to enroll 75 CBO leaders from dozens of states.
Because many of the non-profits that we support with free materials and training operate on a shoestring, Consumer Action does not charge participants to attend the conference. In addition, we provide travel stipends to cover much of participants’ travel expenses.
Our sponsorship levels include:
- Underwriter ($35,000) – provides the opportunity to make conference welcoming remarks; includes special recognition from the podium, acknowledgement on all materials, a full-page ad in the conference program and logo display on the conference webpage
- Leadership Circle ($10,000) – provides the opportunity to make welcoming remarks at the reception; includes acknowledgement on all materials, a half-page ad in the conference program and special recognition on the conference webpage
- Benefactor ($5,000) – includes acknowledgement on all materials and on the conference webpage
Underwriter, Leadership Circle and Benefactor levels enable the sponsor to attend the conference and display educational materials.
Of course, we welcome and appreciate contributions at any level. All donors will be listed in the printed and online conference program.
Consumer Action is a non-profit 501(c)3 non-profit education organization. All contributions are tax-deductible charitable donations.
