Jahinnslerth ‘Joe’ Orozco
Development and Fundraising Coordinator
Joe Orozco joined Consumer Action in June of 2009. Working with Consumer Action’s executive director and the national priorities team, Orozco is responsible for identifying, cultivating and expanding the organization’s donor and funding base. Orozco is charged with building a development department at Consumer Action.
Based in Washington, DC, Orozco also works to link the organization’s mission with current and prospective national partners.
Orozco comes to Consumer Action with a background in nonprofit management and legislative advocacy. In his most recent position as grants manager for Youth Service America he designed and oversaw grant programs on behalf of sponsors like Disney, State Farm, UnitedHealth Care and the Department of Justice. He has also served as a development consultant for Mary House, a DC nonprofit dedicated to providing transitional housing for refugee and low-income families, as well as the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis, which provides free treatment to some of DC’s vulnerable residents.
Prior to relocating to DC to fulfill an AmeriCorps assignment, Orozco was the legislative coordinator for the National Federation of the Blind of Texas, where he mobilized a grassroots operation to successfully pass two key bills concerning accessibility to newspapers and higher education instructional materials.
Orozco received a bachelor’s in public administration from Texas State University and a master’s in congressional and presidential studies from the Catholic University of America. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
