Kathy Li
Director, San Francisco Office
Kathy Li is the director of Consumer Action’s San Francisco office and has worked for the nonprofit group for 18 years. She leads CA’s effort in producing and distributing over two million free, multilingual consumer educational materials annually through 9,000 community-based organizations nationwide.
Li also oversees Consumer Action’s multilingual websites, and the daily operation of CA’s SF office — from hiring staff to keeping the computers and databases running. She organizes and manages a team of translators to help government and nonprofit agencies serve non-English-speaking consumers by translating guidelines, publications and websites.
Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, Li works closely with the Chinese media and Asian communities throughout California to promote consumer rights. Li was the host and co-producer of a San Francisco weekly Cantonese radio talk show, “Consumers’ Voices”, from 1993 to 2003. She has also appeared in many other Asian and mainstream media over the years.
In addition to her work at Consumer Action, Li chaired the Consumer Services Committee on Union Bank’s Community Advisory Board (2008-2010), and served on the Board of Directors at San Francisco’s Community Educational Services (2007-2010). In 2009, Li was honored by San Francisco's KGO-TV as part of the Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Salutes.
Before joining Consumer Action, Li taught English as a foreign language and worked in several public affairs offices. Li holds an M.S. degree in Mass Communications and a B.A. in English.
