Chrysler lists dealerships that will be closed

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Chrysler has asked a US Bankruptcy judge to allow it to end agreements with 789 dealers across the United States—nearly a fourth of its 3,200. Click here to view a PDF listing of the dealerships that will be closed.

Consumer Action has joined Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety and other groups in asking the U.S. government to provide relief for victims of auto dealerships that go out of business without paying off the liens on traded-in vehicles. The Federal government should assist states in establishing restitution funds and also require credit reporting agencies to ensure that any negative reports due to dealer insolvencies are corrected promptly, to minimize the harm to innocent car buyers, allowing them to re-enter the car market without being unfairly penalized.
