Turning Talk Into Action: NTIC Housing and Banking Summit

This is a critical time for America. The heyday of the housing market is disintegrating into financial devastation for homeowners, renters, investors and the mortgage industry. For all of us whose work focuses on housing opportunities, reinvestment and economic and community development - times have changed.
On one hand we are excited to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the most important piece of legislation for low and moderate-income people—the Community Reinvestment Act. On the other hand, we are all hurt by the sub-prime lending fall-out, impacting the entire U.S. economy and the international capital markets.
Today it seems that every TV channel, business report and consumer blog is dominated by stories of families losing their homes to foreclosures, job cut-backs within the housing industry and angry investors who lost their shirt in the mortgage market. Proposed solutions have ranged from increasing housing counseling, restricting credit availability, increased regulation of the industry and moratoriums on foreclosures. But how do we really address the root causes of this crisis and develop a solid foundation moving forward so this never happens again?
In the spirit of our legendary founder, Gale Cincotta, NTIC believes that common sense solutions come from bringing all the players and decision-makers together and hammering it out. NTIC is in the midst of a truly incredible process to develop these solutions. Over the past year, NTIC convened community residents, corporate CEOs, government representatives and regulators to strategize on the critical housing and banking issues facing America. Their recommendations will be shared during our Housing and Banking Summit: Turning Talk Into Action, December 5 – 7, 2007 in Chicago.
We must also take this opportunity to celebrate where we have all come from in this work. On December 5, 2007, we will kick-off the conference with a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Community Reinvestment Act. This is a celebration and conference you will not want to miss.
Turning Talk into Action will facilitate new partnerships among attendees that will facilitate the growth of our economy and our neighborhoods. We hope that you will join us in this endeavor, and we look forward to seeing you in December.
