SSA asked to withdraw its support of the Final Rule
Coalition: National Conusmer Law Center (NCLC)
Over 70 national and state advocacy groups representing low income beneficiaries of Social Security and SSI asked that the Social Security Administration withdraw its support for the Final Rule on Garnishments, now pending at OMB.
The confluence of this Final Rule, along with Treasury’s mandate for electronic deposit of benefits, and the quarterly bank matches and garnishments states are required to use to collect past-due child support, will cause hundreds of thousands of Social Security, SSI and VA benefit recipients to be made completely destitute for months or years.
