Credit Cards
What can I do if I don’t want to be a cosigner anymore?
Depending on the credit card agreement, you may need the primary account holder’s permission to close the account. You would still be responsible for the unpaid balance if the cardholder did not pay it off, but new charges could not be made. Contact the credit card issuer for more information. Creditors are reluctant to remove a cosigner because they have no incentive to assume greater risk. In other words, their odds of receiving the money that is owed them are better if they can collect from two people rather than just one.Quick Menu
