Who is responsible for the payments on a joint account?
When two or more people open an account together, it is called a joint account. Everyone on the joint account is equally responsible for the payments and the debt. For example, if a couple has a joint account and decides to separate or divorce, the card issuer could still go after both of them for the money owed. A good way to avoid problems when joint account holders end their relationship is to transfer each person’s share of the balance on to separate cards and then close the joint account.Quick Menu
