How does HMO coverage differ from fee-for-service medicine?
As an HMO member, your health care will be coordinated by your doctor - your "primary care physician" - and you will in most cases be required to use other health care providers, such as specialists and hospitals, that are part of your HMO's network. As an HMO member, you need to learn how managed care works, how you can be more responsible for your own medical care and how you can get the most out of being an HMO member. Active and assertive participation in your HMO might broaden your health care options and cut your out-of-pocket medical expenses.
