Does your airbag pose danger?

Tuesday, November 04, 2014

Consumer Action wants owners of Honda, Chrysler, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Acura, Lexus, BMW and other vehicles (2001-2011 models) to know about an issue with certain airbags manufactured by Takata Corporation and its subsidiaries. These Takata airbags could have dangerous defects and in some cases can cause life-threatening injuries upon deployment. Takata airbags include defective inflators. The chemical used in those inflators, when exposed to moisture, becomes very volatile and is prone to explosion when ignited. When Takata airbags containing these defective inflators deploy, they may explode, and in some cases, shoot metal shrapnel at lethal speeds at vehicle occupants.

You can check your Vehicle Indentification Number (VIN) at Safercar.gov. If your car is shown to have defective airbags, take it to a dealership as soon as you can. The explosion potential has been shown to be especially dangerous in locations with high humidity.

Even if your vehicle doesn't show defective airbags, but you have one of the vehicles listed above, check the database at regular intervals in the coming weeks in case new VINs are found to be defective and recalled.

A lawfirm that Consumer Action works with is currently investigating possible claims arising from the alleged defect in preparation for filing class action lawsuits on behalf of affected owners. If your VIN is a match for the airbag recall, and you are interested feel free to contact:
