Do credit card companies deserve the scorn and vitriol that is heaped on them? Are Visa and MasterCard — or the banks that issue them — really the Simon Cowells of the financial world?

Well, yeah. At least according to a new study by Pew Charitable Trusts, which found that practices labeled “unfair or deceptive” by the Federal Reserve are now as widespread as, or even more common than, before Congress passed the consumer protection credit card law in May.
