First-time buyers make the housing wheel go 'round: As they segue from renting to owning, they set off the sequence of move-up purchases that, in theory, will help the overall market get well.

These days, Hispanic consumers seem to be pushing that wheel pretty hard, and they'll continue to do so, if they're not stymied by a shortage of homes to buy and by competition from deep-pocketed investors.
