Low-priced plans for data-hungry families

Some good news for parents looking at tighter budgets as back-to-school expenses pile up: You have a couple of cheaper options for keeping your kids connected. Verizon Wireless announced Friday that it will offer a 300 MB data plans for smartphones and regular cellphones for just $20 a month. All data plans must be purchased as an add-on to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk or Talk and Text plan, which begin at $39.99 per month. Existing customers in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and North Carolina can access the new plans starting Saturday. New and existing Verizon customers nationwide can get the plans anytime between Aug. 18 and Sept. 30.
