Sallie Mae wants to be a cradle-to-grave resource, helping parents save for their children’s college educations until they’re 18, then lending students money for tuition, helping them save for their own children’s bills and so on until they’re great-grandparents. In the last couple of years, Sallie Mae has been trying to deepen its financial ties with customers, adding an online bank and a credit card.
