White House ramps up push For Consumer Bureau nominee

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)—The White House is launching an aggressive lobbying campaign to boost support for the president’s pick to lead a new U.S. consumer watchdog agency, taking its case to media and consumers outside of Washington in hopes that the public will help break a Senate stalemate.
The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on the nomination as early as Thursday. But the White House doesn’t appear to have enough supporters to break a Republican filibuster, spurring the White House to go all out in a final push for the fledgling agency, a centerpiece of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial law.
