65% of online adults use social networking sites

A new study from the Pew Internet & American Life Project reveals that over half of adults online use social networking sites.

Pew reports that 65% of adult internet users now say they use a social networking site like MySpace, Facebook or LinkedIn, up from 61% one year ago. According to the foundation, this marks the first time in Pew Internet surveys that 50% of all adults use social networking sites. Most respondents said their experience using social networking sites was positive.

Among those surveyed, women outpaced men on social networking sites, 69% to 60%. 70% of those who responded made between $30,000 and $49,999 a year.
