About This Book

Money may not be able to buy you love, but conflicts about it can certainly bankrupt your relationship, says writer Michelle Singletary.

Singletary, the reporter behind the Washington Post syndicated column "The Color of Money," provides advice to women on how to manage their finances with the men in their lives. Money is the No. One problem couples fight about, says Singletary. Most fights about money are usually about something else, like feelings of fear or resentment, says Singletary, so she stresses the importance of an open dialogue on a variety of issues from splitting the dinner bill when dating to planning for retirement together after years of marriage.

Singletary brings her own experience as a wife and mother to the book and doles out advice in an encouraging, rational voice that doesn't avoid tough topics. Many women will welcome her advice on sizing up up a potential mate's financial responsibility, sharing bank accounts and expenses and teaching children about money.

Singletary's column is syndicated in more that 130 newspapers across the country. She is the host of "Singletary Says" on the cable network TV One, as well as a regular contributor to NPR's "Day to Day." A graduate of the University of Maryland with a master's degree in business from Johns Hopkins, Singletary has covered business and personal finance stories for more than 15 years for the Baltimore Evening Sun and The Washington Post.
