National Consumer Empowerment Conference (2018)

Consumer Action's 9th Annual National Consumer Empowerment Conference will be held on Nov. 14-15, 2018, near Chicago. The annual conference takes community outreach and consumer literacy training to the next level by providing our most effective community group partners—from cooperative extension offices and social service agencies to veterans advocates and credit and housing counselors—with the rare opportunity to learn from some of the country's top community educators and subject matter experts and to network with other adult consumer literacy education providers.

During this two-day event, educators, consumer advocates, regulatory and industry representatives and other key stakeholders address critical consumer issues and share best practices in community-based consumer education and empowerment.

Testimonials

Thank you to Consumer Action for another inspiring successful conference. Your dedication to providing us with additional tools to bring back to our various organizations is greatly appreciated. We will be utilizing these essential skills while both educating and counseling individuals suffering from mental illness.”

Consumer Action’s annual Empowerment Conference continues to provide numerous valuable material to those we serve in our county. So much of the information that we have obtained by attending the conference has been used directly to assist low-income residents in our county who attend our month long employment training program. The money management and budgeting material has been invaluable to this client base. Also without the ability to obtain a scholarship to attend, our department would find it difficult to send a representative to the conference.”

The  free scholarship to the conference came as a life saver to my agency as it provided us the much needed partnerships and affiliations while enhancing our capabilities to operate our various programs more effectively and efficiently. Specifically the conference helped us develop our company website i.e we now plan to issue web based annual and quarterly reports on our programs as well as use info graphics for program illustrations. The knowledge gained at the  home buyer/lending education sessions enabled us to effectively market our program to our clients in the Kansas city area by using enhanced outreach techniques.”

I attended the 2017 National Conference for Consumer Action and found it to be an extremely valuable experience.   The seminars addressed topics directly reflecting areas relating to concerns in my area of work with the Virginia Cooperative Extensive.  Speakers from other states presented programs addressing concepts they were facing with had not yet reached Virginia that gave us a heads up as to what to expect in the near future and to be prepared for.  The presentation were outstanding, and networking with others specialist in area of financial management was extremely valuable.  Thank you.”
