If you are like most Americans, being soothed by a calm, human-like voice may be just what you need as you make the traumatic transition to cars that drive themselves. Surveys show an overwhelming number of people — 87 percent, one poll says — are more than a little anxious about giving up the steering wheel forever. Never mind that the autonomous cars that will arrive in the next five to 10 years are expected to be far smarter and safer than the average driver.
