Distributing the child tax credit will be another headache for IRS

An even bigger lift for the IRS tasked with dispatching stimulus payments: The expansion of the 2021 child tax credit giving eligible parents $3,000 annually for children ages 6 to 17 and $3,600 to those with kids under age 6. 

During a closed-door briefing with lawmakers, a Senate Democratic aide told us the IRS “voluntarily” explained while it's working to follow the spirit of the policy, the agency is only capable of issuing “periodic payments” between July and December — the duration of the program — and not the monthly payments specified in the bill.
