Uber has agreed to a $290 million settlement to resolve claims that the company illegally deducted sales tax and fees from New York drivers’ pay. If you used the Uber Driver app in New York to provide rides between Nov. 10, 2014, and May 22, 2017, and money was withheld for sales tax and Black Car Fund fees, you may be eligible for a payment. The settlement also provides sick leave, a minimum wage for drives outside NYC, up to one hour of paid training, hiring notices and earnings statements, and chat support for current Uber drivers (as of Feb. 29, 2024). (Affected drivers will receive notices beginning March 7, 2024.)
