Patient’s Guide to HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a 1996 federal statute, is the most important federal health privacy law. This guide prepared by Robert Gellman for the World Privacy Forum explains what you should know about HIPAA and also highlights some other federal laws that may be relevant to health privacy. This version includes the changes that the Department of Health and Human Services adopted early in 2013 and that took effect on September 23, 2013.
