The federal consumer bureau sued TransUnion over deceptive sales tactics

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sued the credit-reporting firm TransUnion and a former senior executive — John Danaher, who led the company’s consumer sales unit — for violating a 2017 order to stop using deceptive tactics to lure customers into recurring subscription payments.
Hundreds of people complained that they had tried to get their free annual report and instead ended up enrolled in a paid monthly subscription, the bureau said in a lawsuit. CFPB Director Chopra has called for harsher punishments for firms that repeatedly violated consumer protection laws.
